The Jaeger Gallery was established to showcase paintings from this important collection. These works come directly from the artist’s holdings at the time of his death as well as several purchased by Mr. Jaeger during Burkhart’s adult life. As the founder of the International School of America, Mr. Jaeger encouraged Burkhart to become the Artist in Residence for the School's global studies program from 1959 to the mid 1960's. This was an especially prolific period in Burkhart’s life as a painter. The works offered in the Jaeger Gallery today focus on subjects Burkhart found to be most inspiring including self-portraits, Central Ohio street scenes and suburban landscapes, among others.

Oil on canvas, 24 x 30, signed l.l. ‘EB ’69’, excellent condition.
Price: $3,500

Here is another wonderful work that captures a glimpse of time gone by, the corner filling station.  Although painted just several months prior to his death, this is one of his better examples that clearly captures the essence of everyday life back in the ‘60’s.
Emerson Burkhart – ‘Landscape with Mosque - India’
Oil on canvas, 24 x 34, signed lower right.  Excellent condition.
Price: $2,750

Painted in 1965 while on an ISA trip, this work evokes a sense of the vastness of the Indian continent.  Colorful in its depiction, Burkhart has captured the bright tropical setting and dense flora in a very pleasing manner.

Emerson Burkhart – ‘Lady in White Blouse’
Oil on canvas, 30 x 20, unsigned.  Excellent condition.
NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Although not identified, the subject was likely an individual Burkhart encountered while on an ISA trip.  He frequently asked the locals to pose for him and with his charming personality, they usually agreed.  It is well done and a value at this price.

Burkhart has captured the thick tropical atmosphere of this Southeast Asian port as he is painted above the bustling city and harbor.  This is another well executed work he painted on the ISA trip in 1965.

Emerson Burkhart – ‘West Berlin – April 1960’
Oil on canvas, 27 ½ x 39 ½, signed lower right. Excellent condition.

Burkhart was a student of history and a trip to Berlin would not be complete for him without taking time to paint the ruins from repeated Allied bombings during WW II.  This scene was likely painted close to the Berlin Wall.  His choice of somber earthy colors reminds us of the ravages of war.  Hard shadows evoke memories of the destruction that rained down upon the Third Reich during the last months of the war.
